Reinstate Ladders
With more focus been directed toward survival on planets, and playing without jetpacks, it is becoming more difficult to navigate tall structures without building dozens of ramps or stairs. Mining deep underground is harder still, as clearing adequate space for ramps takes longer. The humble Ladder offers a better solution to navigating vertical perils of underground mining and above ground bases.

3 More for ladders... honestly people want them for a reason,
bullEYE13449mm 17/08/17 22:42
+1, if modder's can get it to work, Keen can too.
noname42 18/08/17 00:47
+3 also for medieval engineers please :-)
Mithrilchu 18/08/17 11:52
i would love it for both space engineers and medieval engineers
JuStX2 20/08/17 08:42
If Keen would just integrate more mods into vanilla you'd be happy right? Right - because ladders are an existing mod (even climbable)
Vrmithrax 20/08/17 22:34
Most of us know it's an available mod. The point is to *reinstate* ladders, which were in vanilla originally, and not force us to adopt a mod for something so basic. Many players prefer vanilla only, some servers force it, creation contests mandate it, etc. Lots of reasons to want it in vanilla.
Brigor 24/08/17 11:59
They just need to integrate the mod into the vanilla game, like they have done it with corner LCDs/Lights or Parachutes and everyone is happy :D
oleando 25/08/17 14:49
"Too hard to integrate ladders in the game." *modder makes 127kb ladder mod*
baratgab 30/08/17 13:29
So, since this is the leading suggestion... when can we expect ladders? :P I could really use them in my new build. Or at least some sort of an elevator. Without mods.
NikolasMarch 05/09/17 22:38
yes definitely, i heard they were removed just because a dev, or other keen employee disliked them, thats HIS own personal opinion and should not have been the deciding factor in the ladders removal!
Vrmithrax 05/09/17 23:13
I'm afraid you heard wrong, and if you had been playing this game since the start you would know that. The reason ladders were initially removed had to do with player orientation issues and the gravity generators, before planets were even a thing. A player moving down a ladder and into a gravity field (or fields) with a different direction could cause really weird behaviors, so they pulled the ladders. I experienced the issue first-hand, it was quite... disorienting. It was not because some random dev "did not like them." I'd suggest being careful with your accusations in the future, and maybe do some fact checking first.
XeroCreator 06/09/17 08:31
This is space engineers, why not just have gravity jump pads? where while you are in the block areas, you can control your character movement up and down as if you had a jetpack enabled, but it's actually off, just a thought i had i wanted to add.
newscientist 06/09/17 10:38
It could be unicorns flying up and down a rainbow for all it matters, we just need something that helps with traversing floors.
FoolishOwl 08/09/17 18:52
I'm curious if people experience the weird issues with gravity and orientation when using this mod: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=600062079&searchtext=ladders
Pharap 14/09/17 22:49
I've often found myself using plain corridors to access different levels because sometimes stairs are too big. Every time I fly up these corridors to the next floor I find myself thinking "I wish there was a ladder here so I didn't have to waste hydrogen".
Runescope 15/09/17 15:48
RETRACTABLE Ladders. VERY important.
Sakanax 16/09/17 11:28
Also I really think the ladders should be complementary into the corridor block. I just think it will work better and stay true to its origin :)
KManALPHA 17/09/17 16:10
get it rung-ing Keen
xiojade 17/09/17 17:31
Either ladders of modular, multi-level elevators would be lovely for the immersion value alone.
Saberwulfy 18/09/17 18:00
So, when the most voted idea will begin? Why we vote?
LukaszLutek 18/09/17 20:47
Yeah... Ladders the simple thing in real life is actually harder to do in game than the warp drive. But gimme my ladderss!
KaneCold 19/09/17 12:25
+1 for the optional adding of ladders to corridors or even as some "interior" block you can add everywhere.
NikolasMarch 19/09/17 14:10
nicely put Midspace! :)
Soultechnology 20/09/17 17:32
keen took a modded cockpit and it was great why cant they take more mods that everyone use? like ladders (retractable and fixed), atmosphere (drag and rentry), and so on and so forth.
FoolishOwl 20/09/17 20:18
If I read the description of Digi's climbable ladder mod correctly, it has limitations as well that can make it disorienting to use. It's a popular mod, so people are willing to put up with that -- but I can understand why Keen would be hesitant to incorporate it into the core game. The real question is whether they can implement ladders without any such issues.
Vrmithrax 20/09/17 21:38
It's a tough one to crack. One of the most useful places for ladders is on planetary vehicles and structures, where the whole issue of competing gravity fields and potential disorientation is not a problem (since there is only a single gravity source). It's once you get into space and kick on artificial gravity generators that the ladders can become messy.

Please help support my "Furniture and Greenhouse" idea. It really is a good idea, if I say so myself. Personally, I think the game has overlooked a vital part of ship building. We have no furniture, like beds and desks or no bathroom items, like sinks, toilets and showers. Anyway, there's more to my idea, I would appreciate any votes. Thank you. https://feedback.keenswh.com/idea/furniture-and-greenhouse59c67aa110fc8
steelphantom67 04/10/17 06:19
needs ladders I'm sorry I submit but ladders are very useful and its not like its out there its easy to do multiple people have done it just re add them with a new texture
Savagehunter924 18/10/17 00:21
honestly I dont understand why they took them out and dont like them. Wonder why?
JASCO2 26/10/17 19:21
I don't think they're listening. Kind of defeats the purpose of this web sight....

DevonV 05/11/17 22:27
@SavageHunter924: It was because of how gravity interacted with them, and I believe at the time there was also an issue with moving ships and trying to climb ladders at the same time. They work better now (modded), but I think Keen settled on the jetpack as the universal solution. Oddly it's planets where they're most useful now, especially after we got Keen to nerf jetpacks so that you can't leave the planet on one.
voidfish 09/11/17 21:44
So, its been about 3-4 months and its still just considered.....Yeah, ladders are never gonna happen at this rate.

AFAIK they can't mark something as Rejected.

saxmo 18/03/18 13:46
3 more for ladders. I know there is a mod to put them in, and I know Keen didn't like ladders because of the animation with the engineer. I want to be able to land my 1940's style classic rocket ship that lands vertically and I climb down a ladder to the ground from the cockpit. Aside from this case of nostalgia, if we don't have elevators, in vanilla, and stairs take up too much space for our build, and we run out of hydrogen for our jetpack. a simple ladder would be the most obvious solution.
Reaper93 01/04/18 19:22
I don't even care about animations, having ladders on large ships allows you to perform maintenance much more easily. They're really handy in almost every situation. I love them and I think they should be a part of the base game like the ship parachute is now.
steelphantom67 06/04/18 16:36
I'm just going to say it 902 votes seriously keen its time to stop and put ladders back in

+1 from me. ladders ar a super simple feature that are essential for for easing ship navigation rather than relying on convoluted catwalks and vertical stairs
midspace 28/05/18 05:53
Someone has been playing with ladders. See the steam branch "neverladderland"? https://steamdb.info/app/244850/depots/
Doomedperson 17/07/18 20:35
+3 would be even better if there were an option for passages and ladders together
