More upgrade modules and more blocks that can use them
I would love to see more upgrade modules.
It's a pretty unique gameplay concept, and one that hasn't been expanded on much since it was introduced.
It's one of my favorite gameplay features, and something I incorporate into my own mods (FTL).
One of the key reasons I love it is it gives the player the option to expand and upgrade their ships and stations, without introducing obsolete blocks, like a tiered system would have.
I'd love to see the Keen example mods integrated into the game (gyro, thruster, and drill upgrades), and more blocks with the option of upgrading them.
Many players have been asking for capital ship gyros, and I think upgrade can be a nice in-between from small and large gyros.
One feature that I would like to have with this is chain-able upgrades: attaching upgrades to upgrades. This would allow some more expansive options, as I'll detail below.
Other blocks that could have upgrades:
Tanks: They could initially be a lot smaller, to satisfy player requests for small tanks, particularly on small ships. If players then want larger tanks, they can attach various upgrade modules to increase the capacity to the size they want. This is one type of block that would benefit from chain-able upgrades.
Oxygen generator: Similar to assembler/refinery, increase oxygen production speed at the expense of power, and also be able to improve power consumption/ice-to-gas ratio.
Reactors: Increase power output, improve uranium consumption.
Antennas: Increase range, even move PB comms to upgrade module
Weapons: Increase firing/reload rate, at a cost of more ammo consumed (could be explained byincrease spread and misses). Turrets could have AI targeting upgrades to allow more specialized customization of targets and behavior. Existing behavior would be left to the un-upgraded version.
Ore Detector: Increase range (pending ore detector/voxel performance improvements, of course)
Cargo Containers: Customizable sizes, like tanks.
