LCD in cockpits and flightseat
Putting an LCD in the cockpit and flightseats is another often requested feature. If you were to add a few LCD images showing console stuff non-scripters could use this to differentiate their bridges a little, and scripters can use this to output data. I'd even accept the replacing of the three screens in the enclosed cockpit with one larger one if that's a requirement. The current glowing texture is a source of annoyance amongst the players, because it becomes so strong when viewed against the darkness of space.

loved the few mods that add this, always wondered way not have it stock
BluePieNinja 18/08/17 04:00
It'd be cool if it was like an 'upgrade' that can be added onto it like the upgrades for the refinery and assembler
CDRTasun 18/08/17 09:18
If there's going to be a really bright light in my face while I try to pick out small unmarked objects out in the void, I'd like it to be useful. @BluePieNinja: What? Why?
Musel 18/08/17 13:04
it has to be functional. show speed and energy, altitude etc that is needed to fly, so u can turn off your hud but got the important stuff just one glance away.

While we're at it, I'd like the same for the small ship fighter cockpits, so we don't have to place the whole LCDs in front of the cockpit for all those scripts.

Instead, cockpit pieces are better. If we build our own cockpits it can have more damage resistance, better design, LCDs, Plasma, LED....

Two words: Yes please.

This would make people's lives a whole lot easier when designing a ship. Modders have shown this idea is doable. The control console on the flight seat should also be a separate block. Which would make it a more flexible item to have in game.

I'm mainly voting for the scripting aspect. I'd love to be able to script my own cockpit display to show what I need (e.g. to display antenna-transmitted messages). Plus it actually gives the player a reason to use 1st person view instead of going into 3rd person all the time.
VAArtemchuk 15/09/17 00:27
There are several mods already that does this. Come on, guys! You can do that.
AutoMcD 15/09/17 15:11
I'm all for this, but I'd like control over what it says. If it's entirely redundant to what's on the HUD then that isn't entirely useful. Workstations I'd love to set up for particular details such as: Power overview- battery levels, reactor fuel and output, solar output, total usage by category. Production overview- current ore demand, what's being processed, what is shortage Cargo overview- total filled and capacity, ore or component breakdown Life support: estimated power time, o2 and H2 levels, ice. You get the idea. I started a new thread about wanting to display stuff on LCD without having to load a script do do it, something in-game could include charts and stuff. That's tangential to this obviously but the implications are obvious. I suppose as long as it's treated like any other LCD we should be golden..
Pharap 15/09/17 20:29
@AutoMcD It would be scriptable just the same as current LCDs are so you could display whatever text you wanted . Block integrity, cargo information, power information, total hydrogen supplies (i.e. accounting for ice that isn't in an O2/H2 generator), antenna transmissions, waypoints. Any information that's accessible through scripting but isn't on the HUD would be displayable on the cockpit screen just as it would be on a regular screen. Loading a script doesn't cost much, programmable blocks are pretty small and there's quite a lot of decent scripts out there if you know where to look.

This idea so hard. I especially feel this with the large grid flight seat blocks, that just have a giant glowing console obstructing your view and running the information density of your carefully laid out in-game UI.

Please help support my "Furniture and Greenhouse" idea. It really is a good idea, if I say so myself. Personally, I think the game has overlooked a vital part of ship building. We have no furniture, like beds and desks or no bathroom items, like sinks, toilets and showers. Anyway, there's more to my idea, I would appreciate any votes. Thank you. https://feedback.keenswh.com/idea/furniture-and-greenhouse59c67aa110fc8

I suggest this. You open the cockpit in K menu and there will be "Displays" button. You press the button and all functioning blocks will be shown as in G menu. On the bottom there will be several empty toolbar icons (just like setting up button pannel). You drag Large Cargo Container to the 1st empty slot and menu will appear (just like in normal G screen) "Display status (On/Off), Display Capacity, Display block damage" You select what you want to display on the LCD and voila, you can see the wanted feature in one of the cockpit LCDs. That way, cockpits for different crafts will have unique feel. Fighter cockpits will have weapon and thrust displays, cargo ships cargo capacity and travel time, mining ships block damage and capacity etc. That would be very immersive.

I like the old screen's image, it looks quite cool. So how about having them as LCDs, but have the old screen uploaded to it by default?
Kaemmelot 24/10/17 12:37
Great idea. Would add some similar idea to it, about also using the LCD screen on your left arm: https://feedback.keenswh.com/idea/usable-left-arm-on-the-fly-lcd-screen59ef1772d13fa

There should also be timers contained in the cockpit block and maybe programmable blocks
andreykl 06/01/18 11:39
>There should also be timers contained in the cockpit block and maybe programmable blocks Tha's definetely overboard. There are quite a few servers that restrict either timer or programmable block count due to abuse, it would be stupid to restrict amount of cockpits as well. Also I personally prefer keeping functionality separated depending on purpose - cockpits need to display information because it is convinient visibility spot, but they can easily use timers and programmable blocks from elsewhere.
RegEd 30/01/18 12:00
Fully agreed. Need to be able to access cockpit screens through scripts so that I can display custom info to myself whilst piloting my ships (fuel remaining, cargo containing fill level etc.) Additionally, there should be a toggle to display the information from these LCDs in one corner of the HUD so you can still see the information without looking down at the in-game LCD, or if flying in 3rd person view.

What if we could use the screens as windows for the flight seat
